Whisperer Privacy Policy
Last updated October 3, 2026
Whisperer is an Apple Watch app with an optional iPhone companion, developed by Alex Spaulding. It connects to OpenAI using an API key you provide. We do not operate an AI proxy or collect your conversation content for advertising.
Your key and consent
Your API key is stored in the Keychain on each device. It is sent directly to OpenAI over HTTPS to authenticate your requests. If you enable paired-device sharing, Apple WatchConnectivity transfers the key and your AI data-sharing consent between your paired devices. App Groups do not share storage between an iPhone and a Watch. We do not receive your API key.
Before using AI features, you explicitly allow sending data to OpenAI in the setup screen. Removing your key withdraws that consent on the device. A synchronized removal reaches the paired device when it reconnects. You can also revoke the key through your OpenAI account; removing it from Whisperer does not revoke it at OpenAI.
Data sent to OpenAI
Chat requests include your prompt and a recent window of conversation context. Voice transcription sends recordings. Image understanding and editing send selected images; image generation sends your description. Voice playback through OpenAI sends the text to speak. Web search may disclose search queries to services used by OpenAI. An optional profile name may be included in your prompt.
OpenAI processes that data under its own policies, account settings, and retention rules. Whisperer disables Responses API conversation storage, but this does not remove OpenAI abuse-monitoring logs or guarantee zero retention. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy and API data controls.
Local storage and paired devices
Conversations and attachments are stored on your Watch. The optional iPhone companion keeps separate conversation archives received through Apple WatchConnectivity. The Watch keeps its active chat and recent chats for standalone use. Older local chat copies may be removed only after the phone confirms it saved the exact conversation. Without a confirmed phone archive, the Watch retains its local copy. Math and diagrams can be rendered locally on the companion, and rendered documents may be cached on the Watch. Native math can render without the companion. HTML preview content is sent only to the paired companion and is not published as a public link.
These local files may be included in Apple device backups according to your settings. API keys use device-only Keychain protection. Deleting a conversation on one device does not automatically erase an independently retained archive or backup on the other. Delete local data on both devices when removing an archive permanently.
Billing and telemetry
Whisperer has no hosted credit ledger, free-demo balance, or subscription requirement. OpenAI charges API usage to your account. A ChatGPT subscription does not include API usage. Whisperer does not send usage telemetry to a Whisperer backend. Apple and OpenAI may process service and diagnostic information under their own policies. Local diagnostics should not include your key or conversation text.
This website
The legal and support website is separate from the app. Its hosting provider, Vercel, may process IP addresses and request metadata when you visit these pages. That hosting does not relay the app’s AI requests. Information you send through the portfolio contact form is used to respond to your message.
Your choices
You can remove your key and consent, disable paired-device key sharing, delete local conversations, and choose Apple voice playback instead of OpenAI voice playback. Manage provider-held information through OpenAI and Apple. Avoid submitting sensitive information you do not want processed by an AI provider.
Children and changes
Whisperer is not directed to children under 13. OpenAI account eligibility rules also apply. We update the date above when this policy changes.
